Dancin'
During the Day 1 orientation, Mike and Sage work out their steps when getting ready to ride.
Hands On
Every ride with Blue Sky Sage lets you have a real "hands on" relationship with the horses. After the safety orientation, you will get to do your own grooming and tacking up.
Handy Feet
Mike and Outlaw demonstrate how a horse with "handy feet" is more responsive and pleasurable to ride.
Horses Like Lunch
Blue Sky Sage horses are nearly all trained to the hobbles, which are a leg strap that slows them down enough that a person can catch them, but they can still move freely to graze during a lunch break.
In a Lesson
This horse, Chinook, eventually was purchased by one of the women who rode with us. Here, Mike works with him to get his front feet moving, so Chinook knows he can maneuver when asked.
Natural Balance Hoof Care
Mike does all the hoof care for the Blue Sky Sage remuda and incorporates natural balance trimming and corrective work into the care of the horses' feet, which leads to soundness.
Out in the Field
This group of ladies is on their first field excursion of their horsemanship lessons week, getting used to the tack and the horse they were given.
The Release is the Reward
Mike and Mary work on the concept of "release at the slightest give", to demonstrate what a horse needs to feel, or not, when he gives you what you ask for.
Watch and Learn
The orientation on Day 1 starts at the beginning, with a safety lecture that relates to horse behavior and the actual application of working around the horses on the ground, starting with proper position.
