Emily and her dogs
|
It is the hectic time of year for us as we are making the final preparations
to get ready for you to ride with us this summer. It's finally SPRING,
which comes rather late to this part of Wyoming, and we're having spring
rains and an occasional snow flurry, interspersed with sunny days. Camp
is set up in fine shape, and we are riding the horses for the first guests
a few more times, to have them all warmed up and their minds back on their
summer job by June 17, which is when the first ride begins (booked full
by the way!). There will be a couple of new steeds in the cavvy this season
and we still have most of our other fine
horses, with a couple of them moving from the guide string into the experienced guest lineup. Now, it's time to hit the trail at a good long trot and cover some country!
We've made a few important changes this year. First of all, we'd like to welcome our new
camp chef, Jocie Corcoran of Rozet, Wyoming. She arrived on June 4 to start cooking for the crew, (read: Mike & Bobbi, and our friend Linda, who on occasion helps at camp), and to learn the system. Bobbi is relieved to be handing over the responsibility of everything related to the preparation of the wonderful
meals that Blue Sky Sage is known for to a true professional, including the grocery shopping! Jocie has extensive experience in food service, as a restaurant manager, caterer for groups of over 200, and other cooking positions. We got to know Jocie and her family through the sled dog racing circuit, as our daughter Emily and Jocie's daughter both run dogs and are close friends through the sport. And as for Emily, well, the dogs have become her life and at age 16, she has decided that she wanted to spend the summer at the ranch working with her young-dogs in-training from her established kennel, so she's taking some high school summer courses online to get ahead a little, working at two different restaurant jobs to support all her charges, and getting ready to spend the winter training with Caribou Creek Kennels in Michigan. We're sure going to miss her at camp this summer!

Sleeping Tipis
|
The other little improvement this year is that we have purchased brand new, high
quality, covered foam mattress pads for the sleeping tipis. While it sounds like
a small thing, it never ceases to amaze us just how much people really need to
sleep when they get here; many are just exhausted, not only from the journey getting
here but from their daily life. Nearly everyone comments on how well rested
they become after spending quiet nights along the river in a quality camp bed,
breathing clean, fresh, Wyoming air. And, we provide excellent quality, warm
sleeping bags so you don't have to pay for that extra baggage on the airplane
to bring your own, just throw in a sheet liner and a small pillow, and your private,
deluxe accommodations will be complete. Blue Sky Sage has always strived
to make the camp situation as comfortable as possible while retaining the wilderness
esthetic that sets the experience apart from the usual dude ranch setting.
The season has filled in quite nicely and several ride weeks are booked full, however there are still a few openings on every itinerary throughout the summer, so we invite you once again to make your horseback riding dream vacation come true in 2010 with Blue
Sky Sage Horseback Adventures. We've added a one-time weekend ride opportunity in late June (see below) for anyone looking for a shorter duration trip, and have changed up a couple of trips to open up availability to specific group mixes. Also, there are links below to an opinion piece by Bobbi about the correct type of riding boots to wear and the reasons why, the BSS
Blog, Facebook and Twitter pages, so you can check in with the current happenings with the
horses, the
rides and the
camp.
It's your time. Get ready to pull your cinch, catch a stirrup and ride with Blue Sky Sage,
Bobbi & Mike Wade

The first in a series of topics about your safety and a riders' sensitivity to the horses' needs, by Bobbi Wade for Blue Sky Sage.
"As an aspiring horsewoman and professional horseback vacation provider,
little things come to my attention every so often that
manifest into rather monumental revelations. Take BOOTS
for instance and what the definition of that word encompasses.
For the purposes of horseback riding, I'm going to discuss
